Near a Catholic shrine in New Mexico, a teenage girl sees an alien die and disintegrate after he is bitten by a snake. Before he dies he hands her a strange crystal. She assumes that the alien and the crystal are miracles and signs from God. Knowing that the crystal is actually an important alien apparatus, David Vincent tries to buy it from her, but she is unwilling to give it up and her uncle wants more money. David tries to explain to them that the aliens will kill to get it back.
